Tier 2 Visas – Tier 2 (General) Migrants, Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) Migrants and Tier 2 (Sportsperson) Migrants

Tier 2 Visas in the UK – formerly known as Work Permits – are visas for skilled workers to take up employment in the UK. This immigration route is popular yet requires a complex amount of paperwork and strict guidelines for timing which means it is best to work alongside an experienced British immigration lawyer to prepare your application.

We have helped hundreds of migrants secure Tier 2 Visa to enable them to work in the UK. MLC Immigration Lawyers are your go-to partner for easily and legally securing Tier 2 Work Visas.

There are numerous immigration routes for Tier 2 Visa holders including Tier 2 (General), Minister of Religion and Sportsperson Visas.

Tier 2 Requirements

To be eligible to apply for a Tier 2 Visa in the UK, applicants must:

  • Have a job offer
  • Hold a certificate of sponsorship from a UK-based employer
  • Score 70 points according to the British immigration system for maintenance (10 points), English language (10 points) and the appropriate salary and holding a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) (50 points)

The applicant cannot own more than 10% of the business’ shares of a limited company, unless their gross annual salary is £159,600 or higher.

The process of applying for a Tier 2 Visa requires a great deal of support from your employer and also involves strict time limits and a large amount of proof that you are eligible for the visa.

Tier 2 Visas typically last for 3 years and can be extended up to 6 years. Holders of Tier 2 Visas can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK after 5 years of having the visa.

Tier 2 (Sportsperson) Visas

Beyond the already mentioned Tier 2 Requirements, Sportspeople applicants must also:

  • Be an internationally established player or coach at the highest level
  • Have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship from their sponsor and your employer must have an endorsement from the appropriate governing body for their sport
  • Must be able to prove that their activities in the UK make a significant contribution to the development of your sport at the highest level in the UK

Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) Visas

Tier 2 Minister of Religion Visas are for applicants who have been offered a valid job within a faith community, either as a minister of religion, missionary, or member of a religious order in the UK.

As well as the general requirements, you will be required to prove that you have in-depth knowledge of your role and that you genuinely intend to undertake the position for which your CoS was assigned.

Dependents of Tier 2 Migrants

It is possible to bring dependents – spouses, unmarried partners, and children – into the UK under a Tier 2 Visa, and they are also permitted to work in the UK. This application process is not highly difficult, but it is best to work with an experienced UK Immigration Lawyer to ensure a successful outcome.
